Paver Sealing in St. Augustine, FL
PD Home Pros is a paver restoration specialist, not a pressure-washing outfit with sealer as an add-on. Every sealing job starts with a three-step Trident Protects cleaning, properly graded joint sand, and a dry, inspected surface, then a two-coat professional sealer that locks the joints and protects the pavers from Florida sun, stains, and storms.

Why seal
What sealing actually does
The visual change is what sells it, but the structural work is what makes it worth the money. Sealer binds the top of the joint sand so rain stops carrying it away, which is the root cause of pavers shifting, settling, and separating.
It also closes the pores of the paver itself. Sunscreen, grill grease, leaf tannin, and irrigation rust sit on the surface where they can be rinsed off, rather than soaking into the concrete where they are permanent. Left unsealed long enough, pavers dull, fade, grow weeds in the joints, and take on the weathered look shown here.
- Locks joint sand against washout and stabilizes the paver field
- Discourages weed germination and ant tunneling in the joints
- Resists oil, rust, tannin, and sunscreen staining
- Slows UV fading of paver pigment
- Makes routine cleaning far easier
How we do it
Five stages, not one spray
Sealing over dirty, damp, or washed-out pavers traps the problem under a film and is how hazing, whitening, and peeling happen. This is the order every PD Home Pros sealing job follows.
Inspection & protection
We check for stains, existing coatings, efflorescence, joint sand loss, and damaged pavers that need repair, then protect landscaping and adjacent surfaces.
Three-step professional cleaning
Professional pressure-washing equipment with Trident Protects chemistry chosen for the surface: Point Break for surface cleaning, White Water for efflorescence and mineral deposits, Wipe Out for neutralization and final prep. Not every product on every job; the right ones for yours.
Joint sand replacement
Deteriorated or contaminated sand is removed and properly graded ASTM C144 joint sand installed, consolidated into the joints, and the surface swept clean before sealing.
Drying & readiness check
Pavers and joints are allowed to reach the moisture level the sealer requires, and weather, surface cleanliness, and readiness are confirmed before anything goes on. Anyone sealing the same hour they arrive is skipping this.
Two-coat sealer application
The right Trident Protects sealer for the material and finish is applied to the manufacturer's coverage rate. Hurricane CAT 5 goes on as a two-coat system for consistent coverage, joint stabilization, and a uniform appearance.
Products & finishes
Professional Trident Protects sealers, matched to your pavers
We invest in professional-grade materials rather than whatever is on the shelf, and different materials get different products. We bring samples and apply them to your own pavers before anything is committed, because a sealer never looks the same on a screen as it does on your specific stone in your own light.
Trident Protects Hurricane CAT 5
For suitable concrete paver driveways, patios, walkways, and pool decks. We commonly use the D2 formulation: a natural-looking matte finish that protects the pavers and stabilizes the joint sand, reducing washout and long-term maintenance. Applied as a two-coat system.
Trident Protects Cyclone
For suitable travertine and other compatible natural stone where a natural matte finish and joint stabilization are wanted. Cyclone has its own cure and return-to-service guidelines, which you get specific to your installation.
Enhanced & wet-look finishes
A finish that deepens and saturates the color with visible sheen, close to how pavers look in the rain. The most dramatic option, and available where the paver material and existing condition are compatible. We confirm that at the estimate rather than promise it on the phone.
Choosing between matte and enhanced
Natural matte leaves the surface looking essentially untouched while doing all the protective and joint-stabilizing work underneath. It is the choice for travertine, shellstone, traditional looks, and anyone who wants maximum traction around a pool.
Enhanced or wet look reads as a freshly finished surface. It is the most requested for pool decks and entryways, hides less variation between pavers than matte, and shows wear sooner at the short end of the reseal cycle.
- Samples applied on your own pavers before you decide
- Sealer applied to the manufacturer's specified coverage rate
- Slip-resistant additive on pool decks and wet areas, no extra charge
- Walk-on and drive-on times confirmed for your product before we start

Related services
Not every paver surface needs every service
Cleaning, repairs, re-sanding, stripping, and sealing are related, but we scope each job to what the surface actually needs. These are the service levels, and the pages that cover each one in depth.
Complete cleaning, sanding & sealing
Our primary and recommended service, described on this page. The full five-stage process with Hurricane CAT 5 or Cyclone.
Cleaning & sealing, no full re-sand
Available when the existing joint sand is in acceptable condition. We top up low spots rather than replacing the whole field.
Paver cleaning only
Three-step professional cleaning without sealing, for a surface that just needs the grime, algae, and efflorescence gone. See Paver Cleaning.
Sealer stripping & resealing
When an existing coating is failing, peeling, whitening, or delaminating, it has to come off before anything new goes on. Priced separately by coating, severity, and area.
Paver repair
Sunken, separated, cracked, or root-lifted pavers are fixed before sealing, not sealed over. See Paver Repair.
Pool deck restoration
Paver pool decks are sealed with slip-resistant additive and without draining the pool. See Pool Deck Restoration.
The whole picture: Full Paver Restoration covers how cleaning, repair, sanding, and sealing fit together on one driveway or deck.
Timeline
How long it takes, and when you can use it
Most residential paver sealing projects are completed in one to two working days or visits, depending on size, existing condition, drying requirements, and weather. With professional equipment and a two-person crew, our goal is to finish a typical driveway or patio in a single day when conditions allow; jobs with extensive repairs, stripping, or longer drying times take more.
For the standard Hurricane CAT 5 system, plan on:
- Light foot traffic: after about 24 hours
- Furniture and heavy items: generally 48 hours, depending on site conditions
- Vehicles: after about 48 hours
- Full cure: generally 24–36 hours in good conditions; we still ask for the 48 before cars and furniture
Temperature, humidity, rainfall, shade, and the sealing system all affect these times. Cyclone on natural stone has its own guidelines. You get timings specific to your job before we start.

When to reseal in St. Johns County
Most Florida installations need resealing every two to three years. Our UV levels, humidity, and summer storms break sealer down faster than northern climates do. Beachfront properties in St. Augustine Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach sit at the short end because salt air accelerates it further.
Signs it is time: water no longer beads on the surface, joint sand is washing out after storms, weeds are coming back in the joints, color has gone flat, or an old film-forming sealer is whitening or peeling. The last one means a strip, not a recoat.
- Resealing every 2 to 3 years for most St. Johns County homes
- New installations should cure before their first seal
- Weather checked; sealing before rain is how peeling happens
- Clean and fully dry before the first coat, without exception

Questions
Paver sealing FAQs
How much does paver sealing cost in St. Augustine?
Our complete paver cleaning, joint sanding, and sealing typically runs $1.75 to $2.50 per square foot, so a 1,000 sq ft driveway is usually $1,750–$2,500 and a 2,000 sq ft pool deck and patio $3,500–$5,000. Cleaning only runs about $0.30–$0.50 per square foot, cleaning and re-sanding $0.75–$1.00, and stripping old sealer plus cleaning, sanding, and sealing $2.75–$3.50. Final pricing depends on square footage, paver condition, existing coatings, joint sand replacement, repairs, and the products required. Prices are estimates, not guaranteed quotes, and minimum project charges may apply.
How often should pavers be sealed in Florida?
Every two to three years for most installations. Florida sun, humidity, and heavy summer rain break sealer down faster than northern climates. Pool decks and beachfront properties in St. Augustine Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach are at the shorter end of that range because salt air accelerates wear.
What sealer do you use on pavers?
We primarily use professional Trident Protects products. Hurricane CAT 5, usually the D2 formulation, goes on suitable concrete paver driveways, patios, walkways, and pool decks for a natural matte look and joint sand stabilization, applied as a two-coat system. Cyclone is used on suitable natural stone such as travertine. Different materials get different products; we do not use the same sealer on every surface.
Does paver sealing include cleaning and re-sanding?
Our recommended service is complete cleaning, joint sand restoration where needed, and sealing, because sealing over dirt, efflorescence, or washed-out joints traps the problem under the sealer. Cleaning and sealing without full re-sanding is available when existing joint sand is in acceptable condition, and sealing only may be considered for a surface that has already been properly cleaned and prepared. Every surface is evaluated before sealer is applied.
Can old or failing paver sealer be removed?
Yes. We strip existing sealer when it is failing, peeling, whitening, delaminating, or incompatible with a new application. Stripping is a separate service priced on the existing coating, the severity of deterioration, and the surface area; it is not included in standard cleaning, sanding, and sealing pricing. Tell us at the estimate if you have an old glossy sealer and want to move to natural matte, so we can price the strip properly.
How long before I can walk or drive on sealed pavers?
For the standard Hurricane CAT 5 system: light foot traffic after about 24 hours, furniture and heavy items generally after 48 hours, and vehicles after about 48 hours. The sealer generally reaches full cure within 24 to 36 hours in good conditions, but temperature, humidity, rain, and shade all affect it, so we give you timings specific to your job. Cyclone on natural stone has its own return-to-service guidelines.
Will sealing make my pool deck slippery?
Not with the right product. The natural matte Hurricane CAT 5 finish changes the surface texture very little, and we add a slip-resistant additive to sealer on pool decks and wet areas as standard, at no extra charge.
What is the difference between a natural matte sealer and a wet look sealer?
A natural matte sealer such as Hurricane CAT 5 D2 protects the pavers and stabilizes the joint sand while leaving the surface looking essentially as it did, which suits travertine, shellstone, and traditional looks. A wet look or enhanced finish deepens and saturates the color with visible sheen, similar to how pavers look in the rain. Enhanced finishes are available where the paver material and existing condition are compatible, and we apply samples to your own pavers before you decide.
Can you seal pavers that have never been sealed?
Yes, and it is very common. We see plenty of original driveways in Nocatee and World Golf Village that have never been touched. If the joint sand has washed out it gets replaced first, but unsealed rarely means unsalvageable.
Do you seal pavers in Nocatee, Ponte Vedra, and St. Augustine Beach?
Yes. We are based in Saint Augustine and seal pavers throughout St. Johns County, including St. Augustine Beach, Nocatee, Ponte Vedra, Ponte Vedra Beach, World Golf Village, SilverLeaf, Fruit Cove, and Julington Creek, with no travel charge within our core service area. We also take projects in Green Cove Springs, Jacksonville, and Palm Coast.
