Meet the owner

I've Been Fixing Things for People Most of My Life.

I'm Preston Davenport, owner of PD Home Pros. We restore pavers, coat concrete and garage floors, and take care of the smaller repairs around a home — all across Saint Augustine and St. Johns County. Here's how I got here, and why we do it the way we do.

Where it started

Middle of Seven, Raised to Fix It Yourself

We didn't always have the money to call someone when something broke. So we fixed it ourselves.

I'm the middle child of seven. My dad ran a roofing business, and we kept a small farm — cows, chickens, goats, horses, a vegetable garden we grew and canned from. Working was just part of life, from about as early as I can remember.

Between about seven and fifteen, I spent a lot of time helping older neighbors. A dairy farmer had me repairing fences and working on his equipment. Another man ran a lawn service and raised chickens — as he slowed down, I started cutting his grass, building coops, doing the physical work he couldn't easily do anymore.

There was another neighbor, an older man in a wheelchair we called Pop. He could be grumpy, and he always had a project. I'd go over and do the physical work while he told me exactly how he wanted it done. I realized pretty quick that helping Pop wasn't really about the repair — it was about handing him back some control over his own place. At the end of a hard day, even a faint smile from him made it worth it.

U.S. Marine Corps

We Needed It. So We Figured It Out.

After high school I joined the Marine Corps and became a Military Police Marine, training in 2007 and stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina. I deployed to Iraq in 2008 as a .50 caliber machine gunner, running security and vehicle searches near the Jordan border. I later volunteered for a smaller deployment to Afghanistan with a close friend — a harder deployment, where I lost people who mattered to me.

What's most relevant here is how we operated. We were a small team with limited support, and if we needed something, nobody was shipping it to us.

No shower

We built one.

No gate

We built one.

Needed security posts

We built them.

Wanted gym equipment

We fabricated our own.

A truck broke down

We worked on it ourselves.

Other Marines knew that if something broke, I was someone they could call. I became a squad leader out there, and later ran Marines in my platoon in Military Police operations back home. That mentality — figure it out, then go do it — is the same one I bring to a driveway or a pool deck today.

The long way here

A Lot of Trades Before This One

After the Marine Corps, my wife and I moved to Washington State. Over the next several years I worked my way through a handful of industries — not drifting, just picking up skills.

  • 2007

    Roofing & Marine Corps

Roofed summers starting around age 15, then trained as a Military Police Marine and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • 2012–2014

    Trucking & Heavy Equipment

Drove trucks and operated heavy equipment in Washington, also working weekends as an instructor.

  • 2014–2016

    Electrical Apprentice

Worked as an electrician apprentice for about two years.

  • 2016–2018

    Oil Field

Went to Texas to work on oil equipment, earned my real estate license in Washington, then came home — family mattered more than the paycheck.

  • 2018–2019

    Real Estate, Full Time

Left the trucks behind for real estate. Learned to work with people instead of just my hands — negotiating, marketing, helping people buy and sell.

  • 2019–Today

    PD Home Pros

Moved to Florida, earned my Florida Broker's License, and started what became PD Home Pros.

How it actually started

A $20 Ad. A $99 Gutter Cleaning. One Question.

"What else do you do?"

While I was doing real estate around Orlando, I kept noticing homes with gutters so full of debris there were plants growing out of them. So I ran a small test: about $20 on a Facebook ad, offering a $99 gutter cleaning.

One of my first customers was an older woman with a one-story home. I didn't have a company truck or any real equipment yet — I showed up in a Toyota Corolla with a 20-foot extension ladder. Her covered back porch had a small gutter with little trees growing right out of it, and the flat porch roof needed cleaning too. I'd quoted around $100. It took longer than I expected, but I wasn't going to rush it because I'd underpriced myself — I cleaned the roof, cleaned the gutter, tested it, made sure the water actually flowed right.

As I was finishing up, she asked me: "What else do you do?"

That question was the actual start of PD Home Pros. She wanted screens replaced, light bulbs changed, heavy things moved, her driveway painted. I started advertising more of what I could do. Customers kept asking the same question, jobs turned into more jobs, and people started referring me to friends and neighbors. The business grew from there — one gutter cleaning, one Corolla, and a question I didn't expect.

Why we specialize

From Handyman to Specialist

General handyman work taught me exactly what homeowners actually needed. But as the business grew and I started hiring, I ran into a real problem: I'd built up decades of skills across a dozen unrelated trades, and there was no way to train someone else to reproduce all of that at once.

If PD Home Pros was going to grow past just me, it needed something an employee could actually train for, repeat, and master. That's what pointed us toward pavers and concrete.

How we recommend

Sometimes Taking Care of You Means Doing Less

We could make more money replacing everything. That doesn't mean you should pay for it.

I've had customers looking at replacing an entire floor when the existing one was relatively new — a repair got it back to where it needed to be, for a fraction of the cost. Same with pool decks: customers considering a full tear-out when cleaning, repair and restoration made the existing surface look dramatically better, without the expense of starting over.

We'll tell you honestly which one your property actually needs.

What we're going for

“Come outside and look at this.”
What we want to hear a homeowner say to their spouse

I'm particular about workmanship, close to a perfectionist about it. I was raised to leave something better than I found it, and I want you to look at the finished driveway, pool deck or garage floor and actually be proud of it again.

Beyond our own work

Taking Care of a Home Takes a Network

Good neighbors and good professionals around you are part of what makes a place feel like home. We don't pretend to perform every licensed trade — for electrical, plumbing, HVAC or anything else outside our specialty, we'd rather point you toward someone we know and trust than fake our way through it.

I like meeting other local business owners, building relationships, and having a network I can genuinely vouch for.

“Call Preston. He'll take care of you.”

Questions

About PD Home Pros

Is PD Home Pros still owner-operated now that there's a crew?

Yes. I still measure and quote every job myself and I'm still accountable for the result, whether I'm swinging the tool that day or a crew member is. There's no call center hand-off after the sale.

Do you still do handyman work, or just pavers and concrete now?

Surface restoration is the specialty now — pavers, concrete coatings and exterior cleaning. We still take on select home-improvement projects, usually for customers we've already worked with, but that's secondary to the surface work.
