The short answer

What paver restoration is, and what it costs

Paver restoration brings an existing paver surface back without replacing it. PD Home Pros does it in four stages: professional cleaning, repair of sunken or loose sections at the base, joint sand replacement, and sealing with Trident Protects products. Complete cleaning, sanding and sealing runs $1.75–$2.50 per square foot, so a typical 1,000 sq ft driveway is about $1,750–$2,500. Repairs start at $175, and most residential projects take one to two days. Each stage is also available on its own: Paver Cleaning, Paver Repair, Paver Sealing, and Pool Deck Restoration. Full pricing below.

Why restore

What restoration gets you

Replacing a St. Augustine pool deck runs many times the cost of restoring it — and in most cases the pavers themselves were never the problem. Here's what a proper restoration actually delivers.

Original color back

Florida sun bleaches pigment out of concrete pavers. Deep cleaning plus sealer pulls the color back to where it started, and holds it there.

Far fewer weeds and ants

Washed-out joints are an open invitation. Polymeric sand sets firm in the joint and makes it much harder for either to take hold.

Level, safe footing

Settled sections and lifted edges are trip hazards, especially around a pool. Re-basing fixes the cause, not just the symptom.

Stain protection

Sealed pavers resist rust, leaf tannin, oil and sunscreen. Spills sit on top instead of soaking in.

A fraction of replacement cost

Restoration typically costs a small share of a tear-out and reinstall, and takes a day instead of a week.

Curb appeal that holds

A restored driveway is the first thing buyers and neighbors see — and with resealing every two to three years, it stays that way.

Stage one

The cleaning process

Everything after this depends on getting the surface genuinely clean. A quick pass with a pressure wand isn't cleaning — it's redistributing dirt and, done wrong, it blows out joint sand and etches the paver face.

  • Full site prep — plants, fixtures and pool equipment protected
  • Surface cleaner at controlled pressure, not a bare wand
  • Three-step Trident Protects chemistry: Point Break, White Water for efflorescence, Wipe Out to neutralize, chosen for the surface
  • Targeted treatment for algae, mold and mildew at the root
  • Rust, irrigation stain and leaf tannin treated separately
  • Oil and grease lifted from driveway and garage aprons
  • Full rinse and drying time before any sand or sealer goes down

Stage two

Paver repairs

Sinking isn't a paver problem — it's a base problem. Our sandy North Florida soil and heavy summer rain wash out the bedding underneath, and the pavers follow it down. Re-laying the surface without fixing the base means you'll be looking at the same dip next year.

  • Settled and sunken sections lifted, re-based and compacted
  • Cracked, chipped and spalling pavers replaced
  • Color and texture matched to your existing installation
  • Trip hazards and lifted edges corrected
  • Pool coping and step treads re-set where needed
  • Edge restraint checked and replaced if it's failed

Stage three

Joint sand replacement

This is the stage most homeowners have never heard of, and it's the one that decides whether the restoration lasts. The sand between your pavers is structural — it's what transfers load from one paver to the next and keeps the field locked together. Once it washes out, everything else starts to fail.

  • Old, contaminated and washed-out sand removed from the joints
  • Properly graded joint sand meeting ASTM C144, not play sand
  • Polymeric sand swept in and consolidated to full joint depth
  • Activated with a controlled water set, then cured
  • Surface cleared so no haze is left on the paver face
  • Color selected to suit your paver — not just default gray

Why polymeric, not play sand

Ordinary sand stays loose forever. Every rain moves a little more of it out, and each summer the joints get emptier. Polymeric sand contains binders that harden once wetted, so the joint becomes a solid, flexible plug that resists washout, blocks weed germination and stops ants tunneling underneath.

It's a materials cost most competitors quietly skip to win a bid. Skipping it is why a cheap restoration looks fine for one season and hollow by the next.

Stage four

Sealing with Trident Protects

We invest in professional-grade sealers and match the product to the paver. The finish is your call: we bring samples and apply them to your own pavers before anything is committed, because on-screen photos never match what the product does to your specific stone.

Questions

Paver restoration FAQs

The questions we get asked most on St. Augustine estimates.

Do I need to replace my pavers or can they be restored?

In most cases the pavers themselves are fine. Concrete and clay pavers are extremely durable — what fails is the joint sand, the base underneath, and the surface color. Cleaning, re-basing sunken sections, re-sanding and sealing solves the large majority of jobs we see in St. Augustine. We only recommend replacement when pavers are cracked through or spalling badly.

How much does paver restoration cost in St. Augustine?

Complete cleaning, joint sanding and sealing typically runs $1.75 to $2.50 per square foot, so a 1,000 sq ft driveway is usually $1,750–$2,500 and a 2,000 sq ft pool deck and patio $3,500–$5,000. Cleaning only is about $0.30–$0.50 per square foot, cleaning and re-sanding $0.75–$1.00, stripping old sealer plus the full restoration $2.75–$3.50, and repairs start at $175. Final pricing depends on which stages your surface needs, its condition, and the products required. We measure on site and hand you a written price before any work starts; the estimate is free and there is no obligation to book.

How long does a paver restoration take?

Many residential pool decks and driveways are completed in a single visit. Larger areas, or jobs with significant re-leveling, can run into a second day. Cure times depend on the sealer used, the temperature and the humidity — we give you exact walk-on and drive-on times for your job before we start.

Will sealing make my pool deck slippery?

Not if the right product is used. We add a slip-resistant additive to sealer on any pool deck or wet area as standard. If you prefer maximum traction, a natural matte penetrating sealer changes the surface texture very little while still protecting the pavers. More on pool deck restoration.

What is the difference between wet look and matte sealer?

Wet look is a film-forming finish that deepens and saturates the paver color, similar to how they look in the rain, with a visible sheen. Natural matte, which is what our standard Trident Protects Hurricane CAT 5 D2 system gives, protects the pavers and stabilizes the joint sand while leaving the natural finish almost unchanged. Enhanced and wet-look finishes are available where the paver material and condition are compatible, and we apply samples to your pavers before you decide.

Will re-sanding stop weeds and ants coming through the joints?

It reduces both substantially in most cases. Polymeric sand sets firm once activated with water, closing the joint against the washout, weed growth and ant tunneling that loose sand allows. Sealing adds a further barrier. No treatment eliminates weeds permanently — wind-blown seed can still germinate in surface debris, so occasional spot treatment is normal.

What products do you use for paver restoration?

We primarily use professional Trident Protects products: Point Break, White Water and Wipe Out for the three-step cleaning, and Hurricane CAT 5 (usually the D2 formulation) or Cyclone for sealing, depending on whether the surface is concrete paver or natural stone. Joint sand is properly graded to ASTM C144. Different materials get different products; we do not use the same sealer on every surface.

How long before I can walk or drive on restored pavers?

For the standard Hurricane CAT 5 system: light foot traffic after about 24 hours, furniture and heavy items generally after 48 hours, and vehicles after about 48 hours. Temperature, humidity, rain and shade all affect it, so we give you timings specific to your job before we start. Cyclone on natural stone has its own guidelines.

Which areas around St. Augustine do you serve?

We are based in Saint Augustine and work throughout St. Johns County, including St. Augustine Beach, Ponte Vedra, Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee, World Golf Village, SilverLeaf, Fruit Cove and Julington Creek, as well as Green Cove Springs, Jacksonville and Palm Coast.

Why PD Home Pros

Why homeowners pick us

Paver restoration has a low barrier to entry. Anyone with a pressure washer and a pump sprayer can call themselves a paver company. Here's what separates the work.

Owner-operated

Preston quotes the work and answers the phone afterwards. You are not handed off to a call center after the sale.

We don't skip the sand

Polymeric joint sand is a real materials cost. It's the first thing cut on a cheap bid, and the reason that bid fails in a season.

We fix the base, not the symptom

Sunken sections get lifted and re-compacted. Laying pavers back over a washed-out base just buys you a year.

Written price, up front

You get a measured, written number before anything starts. No day-of surprises, no change orders invented mid-job.

Veteran owned, insured

Insured for the work we carry out, with certificates of training from Trident Protects. Qualifying paver restoration services carry a 12-month workmanship warranty.
