Why pressure alone makes it worse
A bare pressure wand concentrates force in a narrow line. On concrete pavers that etches the surface, opens the pores and strips the pigment layer — which is why some driveways in St. Johns County look chalky and blotchy within a year of a cheap wash.
It also empties the joints. Sand that took years to settle gets blown out in minutes, and the pavers begin to shift and settle afterward. The homeowner blames the pavers; the cause was the cleaning.

What we treat, and how
Florida staining is mostly biological. Algae, mold and mildew have root structures that live below the surface — blasting off the visible growth leaves the roots behind, and it returns within a season. We apply a treatment to the growth itself, then clean.
Mineral and organic staining needs different chemistry again. Irrigation rust, leaf tannin from oak and magnolia, sunscreen and grill grease each get treated separately rather than with one product.

Paver Cleaning FAQs
How often should pavers be cleaned in Florida?
Most St. Johns County properties benefit from cleaning every one to two years, and shaded or north-facing surfaces sooner. Humidity and rainfall here grow algae faster than most of the country. If your pavers are sealed, cleaning is usually done at the same time as resealing every two to three years.
Will cleaning damage my pavers?
Not the way we do it. We use a surface cleaner at pressure matched to your paver type, rather than a concentrated wand. Damage from cleaning is real but it comes from too much pressure in one spot — etched faces, stripped color and blown-out joints are the signs of it.
Will the algae come back?
Not as quickly, if it is treated rather than just blasted. Algae has root structures below the surface. We treat the growth before cleaning, and sealing afterwards makes it much harder for it to re-establish.
Can you remove rust stains from my driveway?
Usually yes. Irrigation and well-water rust responds to a dedicated rust treatment rather than pressure. Deep, long-standing rust may lighten rather than disappear entirely, and we will tell you which we expect before you commit.
Do I need to be home?
No, as long as we have access to the area and an outside water spigot. Most customers in Nocatee and World Golf Village leave us to it and come back to a finished surface.
