Worked examples

Three typical St. Johns County jobs

Square footages below are what we actually measure in World Golf Village, Nocatee, SilverLeaf and St. Augustine. Your written quote will be based on your measured area and condition.

Two-car paver driveway · 1,200 sq ft

Never sealed, joints washed out, some algae. Complete cleaning, sanding & sealing at $1.75–$2.50 = $2,100–$3,000. If one apron has settled where the car turns in, add a repair from $175. If it only needs a wash: $360–$600.

Screened pool deck & lanai · 800 sq ft

Sealed by the builder years ago, now dull with mildew in the shade. Complete service at $1.75–$2.50 = $1,400–$2,000, slip-resistant additive included, pool stays full. If the old sealer has gone white and has to come off: $2,200–$2,800.

Front walkway & porch · 300 sq ft

Small area, so the minimum project charge applies. Complete cleaning, sanding & sealing is typically quoted as a minimum job rather than strictly by the square foot. Often done the same day as a driveway for a better combined price.

What moves the price

Six things that change a quote

  • Condition. Heavy algae, efflorescence and irrigation rust take more chemistry and more passes than light grime.
  • Old sealer. A failed acrylic that has gone white or is peeling has to be stripped first. This is the single biggest jump.
  • Joint sand. Joints that are empty need far more sand than joints that are half full. Sand is priced into the complete service either way.
  • Repairs. Sunken aprons, lifted edges and root damage are fixed at the base before sealing and quoted separately from $175.
  • Material. Travertine and natural stone need gentler chemistry and a different sealer (Trident Protects Cyclone) and are quoted individually.
  • Access and screen. A screened pool deck with furniture and a pool to protect takes longer than an open driveway of the same size.

Reading a cheap quote

Why one bid is $0.75 and another is $2.00

The word "sealing" covers very different jobs. A $0.75 per square foot quote is usually a pressure wash and one coat of a hardware-store acrylic, no joint sand, no drying time. It looks fine for a season, then goes white or peels, and the fix is a $2.75–$3.50 strip-and-restore.

Four questions sort every bid: What cleaner? (a three-step system, or just water) What sand? (ASTM C144 or polymeric, or none) What sealer, how many coats? (a named professional product at the coverage rate, or one thin coat) What about the sunken section? (re-based, or re-laid on sand). The price gap is almost always in those answers.

Is it worth it

Sealing is the cheap part of owning a paver driveway

Concrete pavers themselves last decades. What fails is the sand between them and the base under them. Sealer locks the joint sand in place, and locked sand is what stops the weeds, the ants, the shifting and the slow settling that becomes an $8–$20 per square foot repair. It also holds the pigment against Florida sun and keeps the surface rinsing clean instead of growing algae.

Plan on resealing every two to three years in full sun, longer under a lanai. Over twenty years that is six or seven sealings; a tear-out and replacement of the same driveway costs many times that. The water test tells you when: if water beads, you are fine. If it soaks in and darkens the paver within a minute, it is time.

Questions

Paver sealing cost FAQs

How much does it cost to seal pavers in St. Augustine?

Complete paver cleaning, joint sanding and two-coat sealing runs $1.75 to $2.50 per square foot in St. Augustine and St. Johns County in 2026. Cleaning only is $0.30 to $0.50 per square foot, cleaning plus re-sanding is $0.75 to $1.00, and stripping a failed sealer before restoring is $2.75 to $3.50. A typical 1,000–1,500 sq ft driveway is $1,750–$3,750 for the complete service.

What does a 1,200 square foot paver driveway cost to seal?

About $2,100 to $3,000 for complete cleaning, joint sanding and two-coat Trident Protects sealing, depending on condition. If the driveway only needs cleaning, about $360 to $600. If an old sealer has to be stripped first, $3,300 to $4,200. Repairs to sunken sections are quoted separately, from $175.

Why do paver sealing quotes vary so much?

Because the word sealing covers very different jobs. A $0.75 per square foot quote is usually a pressure wash and one coat of a cheap acrylic with no joint sand. A $2.00 quote should include three-step chemical cleaning, new polymeric or ASTM C144 joint sand, drying time and two coats of a professional sealer. Ask every bidder what cleaner, what sand and what sealer, and how many coats; the price difference is almost always in those four answers.

How often should pavers be sealed in Florida?

Every two to three years for driveways and pool decks in full sun, longer for covered lanais. Florida sun, rain and sprinklers break sealer down faster than most of the country. If water no longer beads on the surface and the joint sand is washing out, it is time.

Is sealing pavers worth the cost?

For a paver driveway, yes, in most cases. Sealing locks the joint sand in place, which is what stops weeds, ants, shifting and the slow settling that turns into a $8–$20 per square foot repair later. It also keeps the pigment from fading and makes the surface rinse clean. Replacing a 1,200 sq ft paver driveway costs many times what twenty years of sealing does.
